Austin is No. 1 for having the newest housing stock in the nation


Nearly 14.97 percent of homes in the area have been built since 2005, according to an On Numbers analysis of U.S. Census Bureau U.S. Census BureauLatest from The Business JournalsBlacks trailing whites financially in Colorado, rest of U.S.Follow this company data.

As of 2010, the Austin area had 708,643 housing units — defined as all dwellings, including houses, condominiums and apartments. A total of 106,069 were built no earlier than seven years ago, a number nearly identical to the number of currently existing homes in Austin that were built prior to 1970: 105,469.

Austin beat the runner-up by a small amount: McAllen is No. 1 at 14.96 percent.
