A Night of Giving Dangerously in Austin

downloadHilton Austin – Decked out in a Monte Carlo casino theme, it was truly “A Night of Giving Dangerously” at Austin Children’s Shelter’s annual fundraising gala. Each table had its own black silk tablecloth and crystal chandelier with a centerpiece of red roses. Guests wined, dined, and danced while wearing clothes reminiscent of a Grace Kelly era of luxury and grandeur. Aerial performers swooped overhead while an auctioneer shouted out names and prices of luxury goods for sale. download (1)Austin Children’s Shelter’s “Night of Giving Dangerously” raised approximately $1.2 Million – more than double the amount fetched in previous year’s events – for needy children and young adults. It’s been an exciting whirlwind for ACS as they work to improve their recently expanded headquarters so that they can provide even more care for abused and neglected children. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in the spring, ACS started as an emergency-only shelter for children but has recently begun to provide expanded care for children and young adults in need, including a teen-mother program as well as a transitional living program for older teens to help them SSG Galagain the life skills they will need to survive outside the shelter.  Shannon T. Schmitz, who was honored to hold office as co-chair of the gala, helped put together the festivities to make this magical night possible.

This is not the first time The Shannon Schmitz Group has been involved with Austin Children’s Shelter. In October they were involved with “Fore the Children”, a golf invitational benefiting the charity and also hosted a school-supply drive in August.
